Syomirizwa Gupta

No stranger to humble beginnings, designer Syomir Izwa started his brand in the modest surroundings of his own home – but little did the bourgeoning designer know that his creations would one day come to drape the shoulders of high-profile celebrities and members of Malaysian royalty.

In his early days, Syomir cites international fashion moguls such as Gianni Versace, Carolina Herrera and Valentino Garavani as his sources of inspiration. However as his fashion sense and style continued to mature, he found that his search for inspiration took him closer to home – to the rich colors, shapes and designs of the East, as well as the myriad styles that emerged through the confluence of cultures between East and West. The designer also finds himself inspired by strong stylish women that he encounters by chance as he deliberates over the theme of his next collection.

Over the years Syomir’s distinguished designs – particularly his unexpected combination of bold colors and simple straightforward lines, have graced the feminine silhouettes of many beautiful women – ranging from blushing brides to A-list actresses, entertainers and T.V. hosts to adorning regal members of Malaysia’s royal families, including the Permaisuri Terengganu Tuanku Zahirah, and Raja Mahani – the Raja Puan Muda of Perak.

We wanted to introduce prayer mats that captured the diversity and individuality of the people who use them. The designs are inspired by beautiful Quranic verses that speak of nature and its bounties. Hand painted artwork add captivating detail, creating elegant and lush pieces. Paying homage to Islam’s diverse history that spans the globe, these works of art are named after empires that have secured a place in Islamic civilisation.
